In April, as a means to provide financial support for artists during the Covid-19 lock down, our friends at Ransom Note put together Pen Pals, a compilation that challenged artists to collaborate remotely.
Following the reception of the first release, they embarked on volume 2, reaching out to a new batch of artists with the same task. The result is 19 tracks that span everything from ambient and industrial to electro, deep house and new wave, featuring collaborations from the likes of JD Twitch, رGlitter٥٥, Curses, Fantastic Twins and Earth Trax. Our pick pairs Test Pressing boss Apiento with R$N family, singer/songwriter C.A.R. for a low slung reflective cut that layers Chloé’s spoken word over dreamy soaring pads.
In light of the Covid-19 restrictions, royalties have been increased for all artists involved and in line with Bandcamp’s Juneteenth initiative on the 19th of June all profits from sales will be donated to Black Minds Matter – a UK charity making mental health topics relevant and accessible for all black people.
