Since first coming together at Manana Cuba festival several years ago, Cuban/Iranian quartet Ariwo have evolved and refined their output, but the essence of collaboration remains central to everything they do.
Their forthcoming album Quasi mirrors the evolution of their live set which has seen them gradually strip back their compositions and focus on a dance floor orientated sound. Set for release on Manana, the record label arm of the festival, it fuses a melting pot of different influences, from afro-Cuban rhythms to avant-garde jazz and techno, and sees them link up with key figures on London’s thriving jazz scene.
On today’s premiere ‘Dasht’ they’ve enlisted the talent of keys player Joe Armon-Jones. A hauntingly beautiful composition, his effortless and subtle touch manifests through twinkling keys that cascade over deep bass-filled production and live drum work.
