A simple, elegant duet between glockenspiel and pan pipe opens up ‘Wayayisma Petra’, the fourteenth track an extensive compilation of Australian and NZ ambient from 1980-1995. Midday Moon is curated by Rowan Mason the founder of Sanpo Disco, our go-to mix series for healing moods and mixes of the reclined persuasion.
As we found out in Rowan’s recent Diggers Directory interview, the compilation is keen to differentiate itself from the popular new age of the area and caters for a lack of similar projects about Antipodean ambient. It’s hard to find much trace of John Elder online beyond the 1987 Antarctica LP, from which ‘Yayayisma Petra’ was taken. It’s one of two albums he released that year on Jarra Hill Records, never to be heard on record again.
Midday Moon is out 2nd November on Bedroom Sucks – buy from Bandcamp.
