Two big releases for Melbourne jazz in as many weeks, sees a second 30/70 band member step out with their own band. Rhythm section for the Allysha Joy fronted outfit, Ziggy Zeitgeist uses the self-titled debut album for his Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange to unleash the full range of his improvisation and drum-set dexterity. Much like ‘Hero’ by bandmate Horatio Luna that we premiered last week, Ziggy’s vision for this ten track project is to create a live band experience that’s closely aligned with an extended DJ set, heavily influenced by club culture in pursuit of a more transcendent experience. ‘Big Up’ leads out the album, with the broken beat percussive groove of Tenderlonious and his 22Archestra combined with the synth swing of Waella’s Choice keys contributor Dominick Canning and his Triforce band.
Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange LP is out 25th May on Wax Museum Records – buy from Bandcamp.
