Premiere: Kolomensky – Santa Monica (Balearic Gabba Sound System ‘Dirty Monica’ Remix)

Clandestino is a label and collective out of Leeds made up of Joe Morris, Nick Smith and Iain Mac. Trading for over 15 years, they’ve formed a vital part of their city’s musical undergrowth, regularly throwing parties, curating a revered podcast series – with guests including Andrew Weatherall, Jennifer Cardini, Optimo and Man Power – as well as a regular show on KMAH.

The label is a relatively new arm to their many limbed beast, with three releases to their name over the last couple years. For their fourth they welcome Denis Kolomensky, who forms part of the ИДА crew, a Moscovian cooperative who throw parties in the city’s Simachev Shop & Bar and Dewar’s Powerhouse venues. With two originals and two reworks – from Felix Dickinson and Balearic Gabba Sound System, our favourite is the latter. They take the slower pace of ‘Santa Monica’ – with its gentle sunset chords, marimba hits and atmospheric key stabs – and extend into a blissed out reinterpretation; adding a dreamy female vocal over heart wrenching synths.

Recovery EP is out 22nd September – buy from Juno and Piccadilly.
