The original of ‘Heavy Vibes’ first blinked on our radar at a Sex Tags party over three years ago, part of a characteristically eclectic evening from the Brothers Fett that ranged from Blaze to Errol Dunkley. Written and produced by Vincent Montana Jr., ‘Heavy Vibes’ reworks the MFSB classic ‘Love Is The Message’ of which Montana was a member, along with the Salsoul Orchestra. It has all the trappings of an early 80s disco classic: a latin groove, a glockenspiel melody, slowed down and perfect for the warm-up. Imagine a time when music like this reached 59 in the UK singles charts? Take us back.
For now though, Vincenzo de Bull and Halve Soul have updated the track for the current day with a simple, no frills edit as part of Kolour LTD‘s next release, Tale of Two Cities. This ambitious 14 track, 3 x 12″ compilation collects work from Henry Wu, Fouk, Eddie C, Admin and Franc Spangler among others but, if not just for nostalgic purposes, ‘Heavy Vibes’ stood out for us.
Tale of Two Cities released next month. Pre-order from Piccadilly and most online retailers.
