Premiere: Kinkajous – All Kinds

Kinkajous is a French band comprising of Adrien Cau, Benoît Parmentier, Layla Kim, Rick Tipton and Richard O’Connor. Taking influences from Flying Lotus, Bonobo, Portico Quartet and Snarky Puppy their latest release album, mixed by Brendan Williams (Mercury Prize winner in 2014), gives a lot of promise to the band’s future.

Our pick, ‘All Kinds’, progresses from whirling synths to warm saxophones, carrying you on a melancholic journey, while being accompanied by a clever rhythm section that remains subtle in the mix to give the rest of the song space to carry on its voyage. A looking-out-your-window-in-the-rain kinda track, where each instrument is given its own dynamic, with enough electronic flare to appease even the synthesizer obsessed. Fans of Floating Points’ Elaenia take note.

Staring at the Odds EP is out 3rd June.
