After the monumental reception of their Midnight In Peckham release on Rhythm Section earlier this year, Chaos in the CBD will soon find their records in the home of almost every deep house connoisseur around. With this new EP, The Constraints of Time Travel, they’ve tastefully moved on from their trademark emotional, horn-infused deep house and gone with an equally jazzy but slightly sexier, chirpier blend of groove.
If ‘Midnight In Peckham’ is the last tune of the night, ‘Similar Stories’ is the track played six hours earlier, deliberately at a lower volume, seemingly undercutting the audience’s early murmurs but in actual fact providing an early welcoming warm-up service to the patrons just coming in from the cold outside. The occasional female vocal sample cuts above the bouncy Rhodes melody which is held up by the lower-mid sweeps. And would it be Chaos In The CBD without a bit of trumpet? Certainly not an insult to any production, the warm up DJ’s record bag is always in search of unbroken, mixable, melodic yet subtle groovers like this.
The Constraints of Time Travel EP is out 16th November on Church. Pre-order from Red Eye.
