Leeds-based James Stanley (aka Hijinkx), the man behind the new label Jinkx’d Records, delivers a post-classical piano piece like a true virtuoso with ‘Piano For Two Persons’. This track doesn’t simply turn heads because of the glaring difference in genre compared to the rest of the Free EP. It’s more the quality and emotive expression that truly seizes you. The artistic sensitivity in Stanley’s performance is exemplary, pilfering a smile from the listener as the piece gracefully ebbs and flows in musical and dynamic phrasing.
Choosing to feature the first track on Jinkx’d Records’ debut release was a difficult but vital decision. Illustrated by ‘Piano For Two Persons’, Stanley is opening the door to an eclectic, sensitive and emotive exploration of sounds with his label. We’ll definitely be keeping tabs.
