The remix of ‘I Feel You’ from the steam train made of silk that is Melanie de Biasio, marks the first ever from Mark Oliver Everett (aka E) from The EELS. Everett stays true to the notion of less is more, changing very little and keeping the focus on de Biasio’s captivating vocals. Despite Everett’s move from the isolating emptiness of the original, the eerie feel is arguably enhanced, as sustained woodwind replicating a cathedral organ is joined by intentionally off-pitch strings fuelling the tension. Choral voices are added to the ensemble as the track reaches a bridge, building up through chords you would expect to hear in a passage from ‘Requiem’ by Verdi, before bringing it back down to a beautiful quietus in the final verse.
Catch Melanie in London on 24th November for a live performance at Village Underground.
