A few weeks ago, we brought you 17-year-old New York MC Joey Badda$$ and now here’s another fresh-faced talent from the same ends. Angel Haze has been rapping since age 11 and nine years later, the frustration of a  strict, religious upbringing in a military family comes spilling out in scornful, raw story-telling reminiscent of early Eminem. Sharing the same home-town, gender and profession with Azealia Banks has inevitably drawn comparisons, which is a shame. On second mixtape, Reservation (downloadable for free at Datpiff), Haze possesses a bullish confidence in her own talents (“I run New York”), which ranges from mean and razor-sharp rapping to soft singing at the other. We’ve picked out two of the more menacing ones, and on this evidence it shouldn’t be too long till Haze emerges from the shadow of other names in East Coast Hip-Hop.
