Co-founder of United Future Organisation (U.F.O.), Toshio Matsuura is one of Japan’s jazz and dance music greats. On new album LOVEPLAYDANCE released on Brownswood Recordings, he reconnects with Gilles Peterson, longstanding friend and conspirator in Tokyo-London jazz connection of the 90s. With Tom Skinner (drummer for Sons of Kemet and Owiny Sigoma Band) as musical director, the Toshio Matsuura Group recruits some of the UK’s most exciting jazz musicians to decontextualise some influential tracks. Alongside ‘Black Gold of the Sun’ and Dingwalls classic ‘Kitty Bey’ comes ‘At Les’, a seven minute rendition of the Carl Craig signature, turning it from an early hours twister into a potential Plastic People classic.
