Premiere: Claude Rodap – Zouklove

Back in September, synth chug aficionado Young Marco stepped up for a Beats From Space mix and got the internet in a fluster with one particular slice of balearic heaven. It transpired that was ‘Zouklove’ by the little known Martinique musician Claude Rodap, referencing the zouk sound that came to prominence in the French West Indies in the 80s. Released on a new EP from Rush Hour, containing three archived recordings, these “otherworldly Caribbean electronic cuts” draws from funk, boogie, Latin and African. Each of those strands is seen on ‘Zouklove’ with the soft guitar, chuggy bass, space synths and softly arranged drums, with a very subtle vocoder voice in the background making this an ethereal number for either early in the evening or late at night.

Beletronic EP is out soon – pre-order from the Rush Hour website.
