Beesmunt Soundsystem have been one of Amsterdam’s most prolific production outfits, with two EPs for Church, one a collaboration with San Proper. Their next is Sensual Works EP on HNYTRX, the imprint from San Francisco collective Honey Soundsystem.
Our pick is ‘Blissed Out’, which gets a first play here, a track fittingly named that sits in the midst of a number of harder, acid flecked cuts. It twists and contorts before settling into a driving groove, which is at once calming and dynamic. Full of rolling snares and warm bass, ‘Blissed Out’ evokes both analogue techno and cosmic disco, with fresh sounds constantly invading the track’s rhythmic structure. A flute appears around the two minute mark, while marimba and tough claps intertwine making the listener second-guess where the beat will go next.
