Premiere: Fatnotronic – 7,8 E 1

Maybe we’re just not looking hard enough but, as one of the world’s most populous cities, we’d like to hear a lot more from Sao Paulo when it comes to new dancefloor sounds. Thanks to Razor-N-Tape and their Reserve imprint, we’ve got just that. Together with Fatnotronic, they’ve assembled Onde Anda, one of the label’s most ambitious projects to date: a sprawling 12″ and bonus 7″ package of tropical soul and disco with beautifully illustrated artwork.

Our pick was ‘7,8 E 1’, a sub-100 chugger for Sao Pauloan sunsets, soundtracking the transition between a busy commute home and the start of the weekend. This one’s a group effort, with some en-masse chanting accommpanying guitar licks, piano and trumpet stabs before the track bursts into life with a triumphant flute fanfare. A fantastic fusion of Brazilian disco heritage, updated for 2016.

Onde Anda is released on 16th April (Record Store Day). Pre-order from Juno.
