Ping Pong FM is a new way to play ping pong conceived by Seattle-based designer Mark Wheeler. Using embedded microphones, an Arduino micro-controller and a custom built app, Wheeler has introduced a new element to the classic sport that will test even the pros out there. Challenging players to match and maintain the pace of their game, consistency is key, at least in order to hear your favourite SOPHIE or Missy track played at the correct tempo, on the bespoke Ping Pong FM radio.
Responding to reverberations in the paddle each time the ball is hit, fitted contact microphones will send signals to the micro-controller, then as each signal is processed, this adjusts the speed the music is played. To get a better idea of what we mean watch the video above. We’re pretty keen to try it out to this one!
