Premiere: Daev Martian – FreE

Discovered on a casual Bandcamp binge by South African house proponent Kid Fonque, fellow Johannesburg resident Daev Martian caught the eye for good reason. On his new uMoya EP Daev makes light work as he dances with subtleties that navigate his strikingly deep and accomplished productions through jazz, soul and afro influences whist keeping very much rooted in beats and hip-hop.

We’re delighted to be able to give you the first full listen to ‘FreE’, just one of a collection of well burnished gems to be released on Stay True Sounds, the imprint that Fonque runs with Julian Gomes. Flimsy key strokes which return throughout are followed by a building, warped main groove. Opening up on occasion to expanses of spacey metallic textures, which also liberate Daev’s fluid vocals calling out for freedom from what seems to be a rather soulful entrapment.

STS003 is release on 3rd June via Stay True Sounds.
