Russian official accuses U2 of spreading gay propaganda

Many will remember waking up one morning in autumn last year to find U2’s latest album inexplicably appearing on our Apple devices. Following a backlash against this forced consumption, Apple were cornered into making a support document for the album’s removal, yet for one Russian official it was the band’s album art that caused most offence.

State Duma deputy, Alexander Starovoitov has gone so far as to claim that U2’s Songs of Innocence is ‘gay propaganda’. Furthermore, the official has asked for an investigation to be launched against Apple due to the promotional stunt that forced the album onto all of its devices.
