The White Cube gallery in London will host a new experiment in vinyl technology, as the the first vinyl pressing of a live recording takes place on the world’s first portable vinyl press.

Using a new technology created by The Vinyl Factory, a new London exhibition will showcase live recordings by Christian Marclay, a multimedia artist known for his fascination with vinyl and innovative approach to working with the format. His ‘Recycled Records’ in the 80s formed new records from cuttings of old ones, much like piecing together tape in old cassettes for a mixtape.

This latest venture uses technology from The Vinyl Factory and is the first of its kind in the world. With the exhibition comprising a wide variety of media including painting, visual installations and works on paper, the live performances will be from contemporary composers and a newly commissioned piece performed by the London Sinfonietta. The Vinyl Factory press will then record these straight to vinyl and create runs of 500 per performance. The price of each will be £25, with a complete sleeve created by The Coriander Studio.

The exhibition and performances are free to the public on a first-come-first-served basis. It runs from Jan 28th – April 12th at the White Cube gallery, 144-152 Bermondsey Street, London.
