Day 15: Otik – Planetree Path

Day 15 of our 2020 charity Advent Calendar, in aid of You Make It & Project Protect.

London-based producer and DJ Otik has carved his own forward thinking take on techno, releasing his meticulously designed productions on labels like Midland’s Intergraded, Boogie Box, Shall Not Fade and regular outings on Dext Recordings.

He brings that touch to ‘Planetree Path’, a slow building, atmospheric techno cut that marries twinkling melodies, floating pads and crunchy percussion.

“This track was written almost two years ago at my old place in Walthamstow. It’s named after a street I used to walk down every night on the way home from work. I kinda pictured the road as a bridge/escape route from the mundane and soul destroying back to the comforts of my studio.”

This year we’ve chosen to split profits from the release between two charities, both of whom are doing important work within their respective fields.

The first charity is London-based organisation You Make It, a creative programme that offers young women access to tools, networks and experiences — group learning, 1-1 mentoring, work experience, start-up support and 1-1 pastoral support — giving them the confidence to transform their lives through personal empowerment.

The second is Nigeria-based initiative Project Protect, a subdivision of Burna Boy’s charitable NGO The Reach, launched to help provide financial, medical and legal resources for EndSars protestors during and after the protests.
