Premiere: Alfa Mist – Galaxy

In celebration of legendary imprint Blue Note reaching its 80th anniversary, the new school of UK jazz and soul musicians are paying tribute to the pioneering artists who’ve graced the label over the years, by breathing new life into a selection of tracks that chart the label’s history.

Joining forces with Decca Records, Blue Note rally together some of the most exciting artists operating in this musical sphere, from the likes of Nubya Garcia, Steam Down, Emma-Jean Thackray and Shabaka Hutchings to Jorja Smith, Poppy Ajudha, Yasmin Lacey and Alfa Mist.

The latter East London pianist and producer, heralded for his LPs on Sekito Records, takes Eddie Henderson’s ‘Galaxy’ from his 1975 album Sunburst into hazy, celestial realms, which sits alongside re-interpretations of tracks by Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutchinson and Wayne Shorter.

Blue Note Re:imagined will be released on 2nd October – grab your copy.
