Biig Piig, Steam Down, Josey Rebelle and Rosie Turton in final lineup for Brainchild 2019

From very humble beginnings when just 300 people formed its entire population, to present day at 3000; the figures certainly demonstrate one side of Brainchild Festival’s achievement over the past six years. But the real accolade however, is for Brainchild’s capacity to maintain it’s unconscious and unspoken communal magnetism that has seen artists return year on year, to share new projects an ideas. Sensitively balancing steady growth whilst continually supporting emerging musicians and creators has been has been a huge part of the practice and ethos behind the festival’s success and this year is no different.

Taking place in East Sussex July 12-14th, 2019’s lineup is a weave of eclectic and exciting talent, with live music coming from the likes of rising jazz outfits Brothers Testament, Nihilism, Rosie Turton and Maisha who return to debut electric, dance-based reworks of their material, specially for Brainchild. The insatiable Steam Down collective also return with a full 75-min set whilst other notables include Biig Piig, Kojaque, Lunch Money and Allysha Joy.

DJ sets this year include Josey Rebelle, Donna Leake, Touching Bass and Zakia whilst a host of workshops and talks, to theatre and drag from the likes of Jayjay Revlon, gal-dem, Skin Deep and Emma Warren will leave you anything but short of physical and mental stimulation over the weekend.
