This week Salute Music Makers lifted the lid on it’s long devised project aiming to empower and elevate music makers around the UK. Launched at Omeara on Wednesday, with speeches from brand face Fergal Sharkey of the Undertones, Jamal Edwards of supporters SBTV and Kevin Tewis-Allen from key media partners UniLad; the unique music competition presented it’s aims to help musicians control their careers on their own terms. Shining a light on underground talent from all quarters and all musical backgrounds Salute looks to speak for the multicultural-divesity that underpins the real face of UK music. But what will draw eyes most, is the competition’s extraordinary prize of £50,000 (no strings attached) to the overall winner, with the other five successful finalists also receiving a healthy sum of £10,000 each.

The independent competition which officially opens on the 3rd April invites all music makers to enter, by submitting their song through a specially devised app.  Once the submission deadline has passed, the Salute team along with selected curators will evaluate entrants until they agree upon a final one 100, who then over a further period, will be reduced again by public vote until six finalists remain. These six will all participate in the Salute Finals TV show, one touted to be a significant move away “from the ‘karaoke’ style” that we have become accustomed to seeing with current talent shows.
