Doc’n Roll Film Festival makes a triumphant return to London from the 2nd – 15th November for it’s third edition in the capital. As ever with the alternative music doc gang it’s a mixed bag.
Funk heads take note of Tear The Roof Off – The Untold Story Of Parliament / Funkadelic (above). Jazz fans will be pleased to see Gregory Porter sharing screen-time with Web Webster and Dexter Gordon (aka Cool Cats), whilst those of a rock persuasion are spoilt for choice, with films on The Clash, The Melvins and legendary producer Bert Berns (starring Keith Richards, Paul McCartney and Van Morrison). Norway gets their fair share of the spotlight thanks to Northen Lights Disco (below), charting the rise of dance music in the country with luminaries like Todd Terje, Bjorn Torsk and Prins Thomas. The pick of the bunch through these quality selections might well be Placebo’s Alt Russia, where Director Charlie Targett-Adams joins the band on a commemorative 20th anniversary tour through the turbulent underground scene of the motherland, but to be sure you’ll just have to get stuck in!
