St Germain to headline Summer Series at Somerset House

Somerset House

St Germain is the kind of artist that only comes about once in a blue moon. His first two LPs – Tourist and Boulevard – were hailed as some of the most innovative and soulful use of sampling in electronic music, utilising everything from blues legend Lightnin’ Hopkins to A Tribe Called Quest’s unimpeachable back catalogue. His singular style has been imitated by many but never matched, so the announcement of a new album at the end of 2015 was momentous for those fans who had been waiting over a decade for something new from the elusive producer.

His self titled LP is focussed around samples from the Middle East and Africa, giving Ludovic Navarre a new opportunity to build a live show, and it is this show that he will be bringing to London’s Somerset House in July. He’ll be showcasing an array of artists to support him, bringing his musicianship of western instruments into harmony with traditional Malian instruments like the balafon and the kora. Given how long it has been since he last toured we advise this is not one to miss.
