Welcome to Second Hand News, a fortnightly staff playlist series where we showcase our favourite recent second hand vinyl purchases.
One of our main residents, Harri Pepper, returns to the fold after launching the series a couple months ago. Since Vol. 1, he’s probably bought enough records to make most people go bankrupt, so narrowing some favourites down to 10 was no doubt a struggle. In the mix we’ve got some Miles Davis, Latin easy listening, a Herbie Hancock cover, some phat basslines, sax riffs and afro rollers. Enjoy!
Miles Davies – Porgy and Bess (Columbia)
One of my old man’s records that I have acquired. Reminds me of home and the mountains.
The George Shearing Quintet – Latin Rendezvous (Capitol)
Lovely easy listening Latin from beginning to end.
Great compilation brought in London after our XOYO takeover.
Juggy Murray Jones – Inside America (Jupiter Records)
Wicked disco album. Brought for one of my favourite Herbie Hancock tracks, covered in style.
Jackie Mittoo – Show Case Volume 3 (Abraham)
Amazing keyboard player, proper summer strolling jam.
Vicki Sue Robinson – Daylight (RCA)
Brought this after my Rimbombo Radio show at Eldica in Dalston. Lovely voice and wicked percussion.
Bar-Kays – Sexomatic (Mercury)
Serious heavy drums and fat bass line on this one. The Dub is LARGE.
Eurythmics – Touch (RCA)
Charity shop electro Italo banger!
A.D.N.Y – On 10 Inch (Svek)
Funky sax riff, with solid drum work. Dug out in Berlin’s one and only Record Loft. Cheeky dancefloor material.
Blackjoy – Monilola (Deeply Rooted House)
Top spacy Afro roller with funky bassline. Massive memories of dropping this at Dimension’s Festival in the early hours of the morning.
