Sónar add variety to their expanding ranks, with a programme that touches on grime, techno, jazz, house and afrobeat.
Sónar Festival expand both their day and night schedules with the cool addition of thirty six names to the bill. With ten of those finding their way to the daytime stages, the festival lock into varying sounds and influences from around the world including the energetic highlife from Ata Kak, rediscovered and renewed by the Awesome Tapes From Africa label. The UK’s rising hip-hop princess Lady Leshurr will shut down haters whilst the magnetic classical pianist James Rhodes will introduce classical music for the first time ever to the venue. The jazz hip-hop explorations of Badbadnotgood will also see crowds through sunny afternoons.
Sónar by Night will premiere stage collaborations with Resident Advisor and the Warehouse Project but one of the most significant logistical developments is that the Barcelona Metro has extended to lead festival-goers right at the door for their night time antics. Those heading out on night jaunts can expect house from some of the best, in Kerri Chandler and Soichi Terada brokering for Resident Advisor on the SónarLab stage Friday night. Ben UFO and DVS1 will keep crowds sweating with a host of bass and techno sounds alike. The Warehouse Project bring UK vibes to western Spanish shores with sets from grime king Stormzy and garage master DJ EZ, while duo Bicep represent UK house sounds.
