Hands down, Baba Stiltz has the best press shots in the business. Pop the kettle on and take a leisurely browse through the spontaneous-yet-pensive tongue-in-cheek selection on his Facebook page, with a few prime tees in view as well. Aesthetics aside though, Baba has been on roll of late with his musical output. Most recently, he contributed two stunners to a V/A for Public Possession and, rounding up a strong year, he appeared on Studio Barnhus twice and once on Unknown To The Unknown. All efforts displayed a delicate touch for incorporating intricate and fleeting samples of melody into a more rigid four-four foundation. It’s a style that’s unmistakably his own.
For this playlist, Baba’s gone for something a little different, showcasing his love for a figure who polarises opinion in a big way. He justifies the theme a little more below:
“I like Kanye’s music as much as a any reasonable person would. Just look at his catalogue – it’s had an amazing impact on popular culture. His relationship with the media and his polarising sensibilities aren’t the interesting aspects of his artistry. Ultimately he has worked real hard for many years and continues to have an impact on music-makers and listeners alike. To me thats an amazing feat.”
A Slice of Heaven EP is out now on Public Possession.
