Bradley Wiggins watch out. Hunee is setting off on his own Tour de Yorkshire this weekend, swapping two wheels on a bike for the wheels of steel.
Hunee is a coup for a promoter to book in any large city, so to see him debuting in York this Friday might seem like a surprise from an outside perspective. A city more renowned for pubs and the Vikings, York is little known for having a strong clubbing scene, but if you delve slightly below the surface you will find a strong network of promoters and party people devoted to bringing quality artists to the small historic city.
New party Closed Circuit have just come off the back of booking Medlar, whilst Texture brought R&S’s Lone to York in April. They are teaming up to showcase Hun Choi for a three hour set in Fibbers, a club which has seen artists like Space Dimension Controller, Dark Sky and Paul Woolford grace its decks in the last 12 months. At a time when larger cities such as Manchester and London often struggle to keep clubs open and face constant threat from property developers, the energy from smaller cities like York, Oxford and Cambridge gives the impression of a more well-rounded UK scene. After an evening at Fibbers, Hunee then heads onto Hope Works in Sheffield to complete his very own Tour de Yorkshire.
