As vinyl revenue surpassed free streaming services as the fastest growing music format in 2015, it was only a matter of time before labels began focussing on the emerging children’s market who seem as hungry as we are for new wax.
Getting them hooked early, Jack White’s Third Man Records and Light In the Attic have joined forces to create a portable turntable designed specifically for kids, in order to house a brand new children’s compilation LP that will most likely form the foundation of a new era of record collections.
This Record Belongs To______ is a 16 track release consisting of two halves – an upbeat side for daytime dancing and a mellow side for bedtime lullabies. Among the many gems are songs from Nina Simone, Vashti Bunyan, Donovan and (of course) Kermit The Frog. The record is accompanied by an original, full-colour storybook illustrated by acclaimed artist, Jess Rotter, which tells the tale of five forest pals who find a mysterious object–a round, flat disc that they proceed to investigate. The animal friends finally solve the mystery and learn how to play a record and let their bodies move to the groove (within the grooves).
Released as a bundle or individually, the turntable and This Record Belongs To __________ comp will be available on 6th November in time for Christmas. Furthermore 200 copies of the comp have been pressed on “Gender Equality” split colour pink/blue wax, while the rest are black.
