DON’T JUST STARE, a trailblazing series of events, talks & workshops exploring the connection between Mental Health and The Arts, launches this September 2015.
Here at STW we’re always keen to support organisations and charities that are contributing positively to the arts, and so when DON’T JUST STARE approached us to get involved in their London launch party we couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Providing a well-needed mouth piece for mental health, DON’T JUST STARE is an organisation utilising the arts to change the stigma surrounding issues that millions of people across the world suffer with, and too often in silence. Raising awareness is the focal point, and the arts creates a trajectory to explore these issues in a creative setting.
DON’T JUST STARE’s London launch party will hit the ground running on Sunday 20th September with an array of artists, musicians, speakers and DJs taking to the stage for an eclectic showcase of creative output. On the music side, we’ll be spinning some tracks alongside hosting longtime STW favourites Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn. For the last two years the Brighton-based UK hip-hop duo have made huge waves across the country, supporting Slum Village, UK hip-hop veterans Skinnyman and Jehst, performing at Outlook Festival in Croatia and are now the focus of a brand new series on Jamal Edwards’ SBTV.
Keeping things moving, Channel 4’s award winning documentary film-maker and photographer Harry Hitchens will be the guest speaker for the night, People Of Print will be providing live t-shirt printing and they’ll be plenty of free tubs of Lick Frozen Yogurt being passed around.
All proceeds from the night will go towards DON’T JUST STARE’s Schools Tour, providing talks on Mental Health Awareness & Creative workshops. For more info about the event head here.
