Premiere: Burhou – Mary

As a duo Burhou have only been around for a minute, but there’s no hiding the talent brought to the table by their debut ‘Please Delete’. Coincidentally sharing a home county of Yorkshire and now both London-based, Tom and Ross are well versed in the more soulful side of pop-leaning songwriting, having worked with the likes of Nao, Billie Black and Royce Wood Junior. Yet together, the pair seem to have struck a chord which carries them through to their own special place.

We’re very happy to be able to give you a first listen of the duo’s newest serving ‘Mary’. It’s inescapable vocal line draws one in for its almost bohemian delivery which embodies a pleasing roughness over the whole track. With lyrics totalling a hefty six lines, it also falls just under the three minute mark, yet Burhou deliver just the right amount of warmth through bewitching harp-like plucks, delicate guitar strums and soft undulating percussion. Each time it comes to an end you’ll find yourself wanting just one more listen, there is definitely something about ‘Mary’.

Listen to more of the Burhou on their Soundcloud here and look out for their debut EP ‘Lola’ to be released via On That Side.
