The internet went a bit crazy for Lady Leshurr’s now iconic SBTV F64 back in 2011. Since then she’s had plenty of labels sniffing around her ankles, notably rejecting an offer from Atlantic Records in the US after they pitched a girl-on-girl marketing battle between her and American hip-pop superstar Nicki Minaj.
Perturbed by the industry’s apparent lack of knowledge when it comes to dealing with female rappers, the UK grime MC decided to back herself and go it alone with her forthcoming EP Queen of the Scene. In the run up to the release, Leshurr has created a new monthly series called Queens Speech, seeing the Brummie rapper spit fire alongside rugged visuals. With the attention on grime heating up, 2015 may well be her year.
