Half Baked has become a bona fide London institution. Somewhat under-represented in the UK, their sound is best described as the heady techno side of minimal. With a host of associated artists, they have carved their own indelible mark into the London clubbing scene through their Sunday daytime parties.
Production values are key to the HB team and their borderline illicit parties, having successfully taken their brand to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Istanbul and other cities over the past five years. Famous for their bicycle wrapped in flowers, their door policy of ‘no football shirts, sport trousers, etc.’ and their tireless effort to colonise new spaces in the city, the brand can be seen as one of the most solid in their field.
Their greatest strength perhaps lies in the resident DJs, who constantly deliver, both at their nights and in their releases on Half Baked Records. Robin Ordell and Greg Brockmann have been there from the start and can always be trusted to supply the best music at parties that, for some, are simply continuations of their Saturday night.
This event sees Half Baked curate an 19-hour party at Greenwich venue, Studio 338. With a terrace and upstairs area brimming with DJs, we wonder if there’ll be any space for actual partygoers. Headlining the terrace is Zip, the figurehead of vinyl-only Perlon Records. He is famous for drawing from a variety of inspirations when playing a live set. With him, we can certainly expect the unexpected. Alongside Zip, we eagerly await Sammy Dee’s selection, who forms Pantytec together with Zip. French beatmakers Seuil and Le Loup will also be joining forces in their increasingly relevant Hold Youth partnership. Others to watch out for are a live set from dOP, clicky minimal goodness supplied by BirdsMakingMachine, and the closing set from Mike Shannon.
The first hundred guests through the door will receive free branded earplugs, and the promise of more presents to be showered upon revelers, which is somewhat of a tradition at Half Baked birthdays. With the organizer Bruno’s birthday falling on the same day, we’re sure that nothing will be spared in making this an event to remember.
Half Baked will be celebrating their birthday this coming Saturday (29th Nov). Tickets are now onto an extra release, following a total sellout. Buy here, and be sure to hurry!
