With all tracks on his Soundcloud still in double digits, 21 year old Surrey musician Ratamagoson should be new to most of you – just the kind of thing we like to shout about! The name Ratamagoson is a mysterious one, thought to be inspired by a family reference to a Frank Zappa song and we think his debut EP is rather special. ‘Spare Time’, sounds like a fusion of Bonobo and Dirty Three. Infectious acoustic twangs and a sinister bass line forms the backbone of this composition, while the gentle coo of the saxophone and Amaya Flow’s soft vocals compliment the mix perfectly. ‘Distance’ on the other hand is more downbeat, adopting guitar stabs reminiscent of the Whitest Boy Alive, a warm bass line and blissful vocals.
Distance / Spare Time EP is out now on limited 7″ and available on Bandcamp.
