A Little Late EP from south Londoner Loyle Carner is a clear product of patience, meticulous attention to detail and an abundance of talent.
Carner’s debut EP is made up of six tracks, each its own story and possessing lyricism and flow that will make you wonder why you ever listened to the words of any other. Inner thoughts of misgivings, confusion and strife spill out with such sincerity; it’s hard not to be captivated by lines like “stress pressing in my chest”, “love to lust in a heartbeat” and “course I’m fucking sad, I miss my dad”.
The heavyweight production in this debut should not be looked over either. Littered with beats which would sit nicely on a shelf between Pete Rock and Madlib, it’s no surprise he was itching to get this one out, and we can’t wait for more to come.
We’re hard-pressed to pick a favourite, so have included a stream of the whole EP. A Little Late is out now and available as a free download.
