Philadelphia-born Neo-Soul singer Bilal has been a favourite of ours here at Stamp for the longest time. A past student of New York’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, his dexterity for songwriting and compellingly strange melodies has always kept him authentic and iconic in the realms of Funk, Jazz and Soul.
With four albums in 13 years, Bilal has collaborated with a jaw-dropping plethora of artists that match his flair and virtuosity; from Beyonce to Robert Glasper, Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Guru, J Dilla and The Roots. As well as releasing original material, the singer has often turned his hand to covers – seamlessly transforming tracks by the likes of Radiohead and Bob Marley into languorous soul jams.
On the Monday July 14th, he will be playing an incredibly special show at one of London’s premier music venues, The Camden Jazz Café. Stamp the Wax will also be involved in the fun, with our hands on the decks just before Bilal melts down the whole venue.
We’d love to see some familiar faces so get your tickets whilst they’re still around. We’re offering a limited £10 on-the-door list exclusively for our readers, email info[at]stampthewax[dot]com with “Bilal” in the subject heading and we’ll put you on!
