A few months ago we brought you the first demo from The xx after their Mercury winning debut album. Since then, they’ve been touring and a number of videos have emerged of new songs from the shows. Just moments ago however, the first official release has surfaced. Angels will be the first single from their sophomore album Coexist due for release on 11 September. Given the solo work Jamie xx has been doing recently, it’s certainly more of a subdued effort than expected and ‘back with a bang’ should be applied purely metaphorically. That said, it’s still a beaut. Romy’s soft vocals take centre stage, with the some characteristically dreamy guitar work and drumming employed sparingly.
