Premiere: Jungle By Night – Hangmat

Amsterdam nine-piece Jungle By Night have announced their fifth studio album, Livingstone, for Rush Hour’s New Dawn imprint.

The oddball ensemble – made up of (deep breath now) Pieter van Exter (tenor sax), Ko Zandvliet (trombone), Bo Floor (trumpet), Jac van Exter (guitar), Pyke Pasman (keys), Peter Peskens (bass), Sonny Groeneveld (drums) and Tienson Smeets and Gino Groeneveld (percussion) – fuse krautrock, jazz and afro beat and have collaborated with luminaries like Ebo Taylor and Mulatu Astatke.

While Livingstone is their first release through Rush Hour, their connection with the Amsterdam powerhouse goes way back. Kindrid Spirits, the label and Paradiso party run by KC The Funkaholic and close to Antal’s heart, has been home to the band across seven releases since 2011. The 11 tracks on the album range from frenetic peak time vibrations to psychedelic relaxations, the latter of which is explored on ‘Hangmat’, the first track from the album to be aired.

Livingstone is out 12th November – buy from Bandcamp. Jungle By Night play Jazz Café in London (16th Nov) as part of a European tour.
