Now in its 8th year, MIDI festival has become somewhat of a mecca for music lovers who have a certain infatuation with the lavish beaches of South France. This year MIDI hosts an all-embracing lineup of talent, from the folk-falsetto god Bon Iver to electronic chameleon SBTRKT. What’s more is the enthralling locations where artists will be performing; with Future-Garage/House outfits Disclosure, Pearson Sound and 123MRK playing at the core of a pine forest under the stars till the morning, whilst Almanarre Beach (the windsurfing capital of the France) and Hyères racecourse take care of the rest.
Hailing from the Basque Country in Northern Spain, 25-year-old House producer El_Txef_A probably hasn’t hit your radar just yet. His debut album, Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, was released this March on his own imprint Fiakun – a mecca for contemporary House music. Not being much of a dance music fan himself, El_Txef_A has drawn inspiration from a wide host of different musicians; citing A$AP Rocky and John Mayer as significant influences upon his sound (the title of his debut album is a reference to a song by John Mayer of the same name). As a classically trained musician, his creative approach to music-making revolves around intricate chord progressions and beautifully dark vocal melodies (sung by himself). Think James Blake, pitched-down and post-House. Also check out his edit of Bon Iver’s Calgary right here, it’s a free download as well!
Like the Brit School, London’s Goldsmiths has a nack for producing Stamp The Wax favourites. Following in the footsteps of James Blake, Anthony Joseph and Damon Albarn is a hefty task, but we think a current student has talent worth shouting about.
It’s hard to believe after listening to his gentle voice and delicate finger plucking, but Keaton Henson didn’t intend to be a musician. The shy and retiring Londoner first got noticed as an artist (he designed t-shirts for Urban Outfitters don’t you know), whilst writing songs on the sly. But once this creative cauldron of the arts was discovered there was no going back, and since releasing his debut album ‘Dear…’ last November, Keaton has been simmering gently under the surface, attracting a dedicated following. With songs this heart-warming you kind of want to keep him to yourself. But that’s not we’re here for, so enjoy.
Bon Iver has been riding a wave of critical and popular acclaim since 2008…
Delicate yet vivid are the sounds of twenty-one year old Lucy Rose…
