Tracks You Might’ve Missed: Boom Clap Bachelors – Løb Stop Stå
Boom Clap Bachelors are a collective of producers, live musicians and DJs out of Copenhagen making magical music – think Broken Social Scene but with more emphasis on Soul elements.

To celebrate Michael Kiwanuka’s crowning as the BBC Sound of 2012 this Friday (who we wrote about back in May 2011, by the way), we thought we’d bring you another Soul singer who might have slipped under your radar.
…including tracks by Mount Kimbie, Shlohmo, J Dilla, Knxwledge, Lil Wayne, 123Mrk and many more!
It’s always great to see musicians doing something different, as is the case with North London singer Szjerdene. She’s been elegantly fusing Soul, RnB and Jazz vocals with Glitch-Hop backdrops; drawing clear parallel’s with the Future-Soul sound that has come out of L.A. in the last few months via OFWGKTA sub-group The Internet. Leila’s Tale has her beautiful tones sprinkled generously over a rework instrumental from Swiss-born producer Dimlite. A match made in heaven, we can’t wait to hear more!
It’s safe to say that Aphex Twin, known as the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music today, has had a pretty interesting 2011. Kanye West sampled the track Avril 14th off the 2001 drukQs album to make a melancholic love joint with John Legend called Blame Game. Now, Dutch-born RnB/Neo-Soul singer Mar (of Full Crate & Mar) and North London counterpart Szjerdene have collaborated to showcase their version of the famous piano track. It is in keeping with Mar’s Variation project, which has him reinterpreting old songs in his own style, accompanied by some very cinematic videos. The video for Avril 14th is a bit heavy, (it might even be a homage to Aphex Twin’s notoriously messed up music videos) but we love the new interpretation – AAAAND it’s a free download which you can get here.
…including tracks from Jonwayne, Shabazz Palaces, Jneiro Jarel, Ben Butler & Mousepad, The Tallest Man On Earth, Willie Hutch and Nina Simone
I first heard this gem a while back, but it is just too good to keep under wraps any longer. Trilogy is a collaborative effort made up of three artists with backgrounds in Dubstep/Grime (Youthman), Drum & Bass (DJ Redeye) and Soul (Luce)…
A few months ago Odd Future announced that a new group, The Internet, had been born into their camp of madly talented wolves. Comprised of Syd Tha Kyd (the group’s live DJ and sound engineer) on vocals and Matt Martian on production, they seem to be skating down yet another musical path that I can only describe as ‘Odd Future RnB’…
Let’s be frank. In recent years, R&B as a genre has lost all credibility…
Altanta-based songstress Staycen is a super-talented soul-queen with a platinum egde. Mystifyingly, she’s unsigned, yet pouring out vibes that’ll wash you straight back into the early noughties ‘golden-age’ of RnB. There’s not too much information on Staycen yet, so I have no interesting facts to offer, except that her EP is free to download at http://staycen.bandcamp.com/ and I haven’t been able to get the chorus of Feel ‘Ya out of my head for weeks. So listen below at your own peril, you have been warned!
