Following her participation in the first ESP. writing camp in Nairobi 2019, RnB singer-songwriter Lynda Dawn’s ‘Roses’ was originally released on New Tangents…Vol. 1 EP, alongside four other tracks with artists from the UK, Kenya and Uganda. The Roses 7″ brings two artists together for the first time. United by their love for boogie, Lynda collaborated remotely with L.A. producer and record shop owner XL Middleton for an uptempo flip to accompany the original.
A welcome contrast from the original’s slower, bass-heavy synth lines and hypnotic melodies, XL’s instrumental version evokes the image of a sunset drive through the City of Angels, the cool evening breeze just beginning to turn the heat from bearable to refreshing as the G-funk-infused 90s RnB grooves start getting you ready to party, gently preparing us for a night to remember.
It serves as an excellent showcase of Extra Soul Perception’s continued commitment to international collaboration, with the track effortlessly displaying the best of two distinct worlds and sounds, united by a shared history.
Roses is out now on Extra Soul Perception.
