Premiere: Komang – Flex

Yet another compelling artist sprouting from the ever fertile hotbed of Melbourne. Introducing herself late 2020 with the 90s house inspired Dewi, Komang has returned with a pulsing femme bomb, ‘Flex’. A follow up single to her debut Mythologies EP, this palpable future r&b cut certainly solidifies the self-produced vocalist as ‘one to watch’. With an approach that will inevitably draw comparisons to names like FKA Twigs and Solange, we think sky’s the limit for Australia’s next exciting export.

A multidisciplinary artist, Komang aka Rosie Clynes impressively produced, composed and performed Flex, along with the rest of her EP which is slated for release early 2021. Her sound synthesizes future leaning soul, pop and progressive electronica, and draws influence from her Balinese heritage, successfully crafting something both probing and unanchored yet with cross-over sensibilities.

On ‘Flex’, Komang’s tone is syrup, smoothly gliding over her silken soundscape before a pulsing synth-bassline fills the space with hypnotic effect. The production hits hard, however her delivery comes as a sultry cool. A song about expanding into oneself, and being inspired by the power of others, the track is an alluring slice of empowerment. This sinewy r&b melter sits true to it’s title. A determined and swinging statement from a fresh creative voice.

Flex is out digitally this Friday 22nd – grab your copy.
