Premiere: Carmen Villain – Impossible Color (Yu Su Remix)

Oslo-based label Smalltown Supersound have been unwavering supporters of Norwegian-Mexican producer Carmen Villain since her first release in 2012. This close and long standing relationship between artist and label has brought with it five EPs and three albums, the most recent of which is the cosmic ambience of Both Lines Will Be Blue last year.

As an appendix to the album, Carmen has taken on curatorial duties and handpicked some of her favourite producers to put their own touch on her original tracks. The collection of reworks navigates the vast nooks and crannies of dance music, from cuts for the dance floor via Parris and Karima F, dancehall dub and deep reggaetón from Jay Glass Dubs and DJ Python respectively, plus two downtempo takes from D.K. and Yu Su.

In signature style, our pick from Yu Su – her spin on ‘Impossible Color’ – is a meditative fourth world jam carried along by drifting pan flutes, echoing keys and soft tittering percussion.

Both Lines Will Be Blue Remixed comes out on 28th February. Grab your copy from Bandcamp
