Midland, Sun Ra, Dark Sky, Max Graef & Glenn Astro set for our 2016 charity Advent Calendar

This December Stamp The Wax’s Advent Calendar returns for a third year, giving homes to unused or unwanted musical works to raise money for charity.

After raising over £1000 for Help Musicians UK through pay-what-you-like donations on our Bandcamp last year, to mark our annual season of giving this time round, we’ll be sending all proceeds to The Steve Reid Foundation. A charity started by Gilles Peterson in tribute to the pioneering jazz drummer, aiming to support other musicians both creatively and financially.

Over the past two years we’ve been fortunate enough to gain the participation from some of our favourite artists, including Melanie de Biasio, Damiano von Erckert, Henry Wu, Adesse Versions, Owiny Sigoma Band and Tall Black Guy; whose contribution received a shoutout from 6Music’s Lauren Lavern.

This year to help us with the countdown, we welcome more winter warmers from new friends and old, including the familiar bouncing groove from the re-emerged house gem Takuya Matsumoto, some brass-lead soul from multi-instrumentalist Bastien Keb, a soul reissue from Athens of the North and a journeying cut from Max Graef. Dark Sky and Glenn Astro return with more hidden treasures and a there’s even a special shelf dusting for the astral king Sun Ra.

Follow us on Bandcamp and Soundcloud to stay up-to-date with the series beginning tomorrow. And, if you missed last year, listen to the full selection below and download some of the ones still available.
