Memorial tree for Beatle replanted, following beetle attack

2000

Just under a year ago we spoke of the George Harrison memorial tree ironically being eaten by beetles. Today we have the good news that the tree has been replanted in the same position. The new Shrubby Yew Pine that has taken its place is apparently resistant to ice, drought and most importantly beetle infestations.

The planting ceremony in LA was soundtracked by ‘Give Me Love’ and ‘Here Comes The Sun’, to a crowd of around 200 that included Harrison’s sister Louise. Paula Greenfield who originally canvassed for the planting said that they ‘never expected to be doing this again’ but that George Harrison would definitely have appreciated the irony due to his sometimes ‘wicked sense of humour’.
