Following on from the tropical trance of Jex Opolis’ Sharing/Senses EP, the Toronto-based producer makes an unmistakably flamboyant return to his own label Good Timin, with the Italo-disco epic ‘DZE’. Feating a squelchy boogie-inflected baseline, splashes of steel pans and trance-y opening keys, Opolis uses ‘DZE’ to pay homage to Italo-disco legends Asso. According to ‘Test Pressing’, Opolis even got hold of the studio musician, Stefano Galante, who played on Asso’s 1984 track ‘Don’t Stop’, to play the colourful Cassio solo on ‘DZE’, which elevates the track to a whole new level. If you are a fan of Todd Terje, the Pender Street Steppers or Wally Badarou, you’ll love Opolis.
‘DZE’ opens the three-track GDTIMIN003 EP by Jex Opolis. It’s available to buy from Jex Opolis’ Bandcamp.
