Matthew Tanner aka LOOM seems to have his fingers in all sorts of creative pies these days. As head-honcho of the renowned and ever-growing weekly hip-hop night DONUTS, he’s been keeping very busy the last few years bringing some of the most distinguished electronic/hip-hop artists to Brighton‘s shorelines. From Canadian beat-freaks Kaytranada and Lunice to the showcase of L.A. beat-scene super-talents Exile and Blu, DONUTS are now an unquestionable force in Brighton’s music scene, keeping it eclectic and fresh.
Live events aside, his DONUTS clothing merchandise has proven to be such a staple of music-lovers in Brighton that he’s recently had to set up an actual online store to cope with orders (new merch can be found at donutsbrighton.bigcartel.com by the way). So, it was a delight and a surprise to find out that alongside all of this he’s also a very talented beat-maker himself.
His Brighton-based music project LOOM is a sample-based delight blending hip-hop with sounds from across the world to create some seriously transcendental vibes. In lieu of the World Cup Brazilian fever we’ve all been experiencing, we’re delighted to be streaming his Brazilian Beats EP, a 3-track Latin-inspired hip-hop journey through samba guitar strums, piano-jazz phrasings and jungle mouth-pop rhythms.
