Last month we brought you the hot buttered soul sounds of New Zealand outfit Sorceress (formerly STW favourites Funkommunity), picking out two favourites off their debut album Dose. Since then, we haven’t been able to leave the album alone, so reached out to the band and asked if we could host a track from their outstanding long player. Thankfully they were up for it and, spoilt for choice, we opted for one of the less-appreciated numbers. Like much of Dose, Te Kano leads with bass-driven, dancefloor rhythms, while injecting a deep soule thanks to impressive musicianship, production from Isaac Aesilli and the seductive vocals of Rachel Fraser. We’ve been completely taken in by the musical sorcery of this five-piece and Dose is an easy contender for our album of the year for 2014.
