After the rip-roaring success of bringing Mano Le Tough to the Riverside basketball court last June, the same team are back with a new look and taking shelter from the winter cold in a new bespoke venue in Bristol. On 13th December, Inner State and Stamp The Wax are joining forces to showcase one of Detroit’s all time greats.
Andrés’ upbringing reads like an anthology of musical greats, past and present. The son of an original player on Detroit’s jazz scene who performed Santana, he began his love affair with record collecting by working at Detroit’s Buy-Rite Records with Moodymann, and first began producing in Amp Fiddler’s home alongside J Dilla. Fast forward two decades and Andrés has DJd for Slum Village, released three highly-acclaimed full-lengths for Mahogoni Music, and started his own label which reissues the wealth of lost classics at his disposal. New For U was La Vida’s premier release last year, and topped many end of year lists in 2012. The timeless 12″ introduced Andrés to a whole new generation of house and downtempo boogie lovers, making his appeal as strong now as it’s ever been.
Taking the lead from a producer whose work oozes soul, comes Admin, whose recent white label release, Gold Soul, fits perfectly alongside Andrés in style and name. With releases on Boogie Futero, Chasing Unicorn and Glasgow Underground, Admin is a name very much on the rise in Bristol. A purveyor of blissed out and soulful house, as well as sharing a love of Dilla-related hip-hop through moniker 2Donuts, Admin provides the perfect support for Andrés.
We’re also delighted to welcome back Tom D, who was forced to give way to adverse weather at the start of the day party last summer. Now in the cosy confines of the Old Malt House, the Donuts Store co-founder, will have the chance to show off his considerable musical knowledge. Lest we forget, Robin Sure, resident DJ for Just Jack and boss of the Jack Music Agency will also be joining us at the decks for the evening.
